How to make Asoka Halwa / Moongdal Halwa Recipe / Pesarapappu Halwa Recipe / Asoka Halwa Recipe with step by step pictures

             Asoka Halwa is sweet which is very famous in Thanjavur (Tamilnadu).Actually I don't like sweets,but I often prepare sweets for my brother and husband. But I eat a little to taste. Here is the step by step recipe for Asoka Halwa with pictures.
           



Ingredients :

Moongdal        -    1 cup
Sugar               -    1/2 cup
Ghee                -    1/2 cup
Wheat Flour    -    2 tbsp
Cardamom powder   -    1/2 tbsp
Red food color  - A pinch
Cashews, Almonds  - 8 to 10


Procedure :

  • In a pressure cooker heat one teaspoon ghee.


  • Add moong dal and roast till raw smell goes.
                

  • Add 1 1/2 cup water and cook for 4 whistles or until it becomes soft.


  • Mash cooked moong dal with blender till smooth. Keep it aside. 


  • In a pan, heat 2 tbsp of ghee and fry chopped cashews and almonds till golden color. Remove and keep them aside.


  • In the same pan, add wheat flour for 1 or 2 mins (not to burn). Keep it aside.


  • Now in the pan, add pured moong dal.


  • Then add Sugar.


  • Mix it well and add 2 tbsp of ghee.


  • Fry continuously. Add again 2 tbsp of ghee.

                                

  • Once it thickens, add food color and add some ghee.
               
  • Fry for some time, keep stirring.                  


  • Then add fried wheat flour and mix well.                 


  • It will start leaving the pan.Add cashews, cardamom powder and mix well.( I made cardamom powder by adding cardamoms and 2 tbsp of sugar together in mixer grinder)      


  • fry for some time then Switch off the stove and serve.           


  • It tastes well when served warm.
